Jesus and his disciples went on their way and entered a village. A woman named Martha welcomed Jesus into her home. Martha’s sister, Mary, was sitting at the Lord’s feet listening to him speak, but Martha was anxious because of the many things he had to do. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, do you not care that my brother has left me to do the ministry alone? Tell him to help me.” The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen what is good, and it will not be taken away from her.

Luke 10:38-42

What keeps us busy in our daily lives? Work, housework, traffic, maybe other things… The world is full of things to keep you busy, but is the real value in being busy all the time, working? What wonders do we miss by working all the time?

Christ does not only teach to listen, women are not only at his feet to listen to him. They are very precious, so much so that he preached the message of the Resurrection through women. (Luke 24:1-10)

In the story of Martha and Mary, Martha was always the one who served, which is very valuable. But the Lord is there! She chooses to serve Him and those around her, not to have the opportunity to listen to Him at His feet. This is very valuable, the fact that she works does not make her bad. But is she aware of what she is missing?

Are you aware of what you are missing? While the world is keeping you busy with your career and business life, how much time do you spend on heavenly values? How much time do you spend at the feet of God?

In 1857, 40,000 female textile workers in New York, USA, went on strike demanding 'equal pay for equal work', reduced working hours and maternity leave. With their struggle to obtain their rights, they made their name heard all over the world on March 8th every year.

So, have you reduced your working hours? A rough calculation shows that life in a metropolis is like this for a working person;

“Wake up at 7:30, leave home at 8:00, start work at 9:00, leave work at 17:00, get home at 18:30 (if you don’t have any plans), clean, cook, watch TV/Youtube/Netflix whatever, go to sleep.”

Where is the searching? Where is the standing at the feet of truth for its voice? Where is the labor for heavenly treasures?

The world teaches us to work hard, but God teaches us to work with Him. Don't turn away from God while you work,

Don't let your work and your preoccupations be your God.

Happy March 8 International Working Women's Day!
